For folks with a high mileage car and a solenoid that has never been cleaned, maybe the best option is to buy a new solenoid rather than try to clean a dirty one. At least one person has already done this by the looks of it. No boost, no bottle, just my foot on the throttle! Location: Blacktown!

The solenoid is a boost controller in simple terms. It controls when and how much the wastegate actuator opens. If the solenoid is sticky it will not open as quickly or early as it should It doesn’t. Mine has never been done, and I don’t suffer from delayed boost. I might go do some before and after logging on the boost control and play Mythbuster.

If the boost is low, it is a sign there might be a leak in the system. If the boost is slow to build, it could be a sign there might be an issue with the wastegate or bypass leaking.

What should I do if my Turbo overboost is not working?
An OBD tester is very useful because you can ask the computer to run the solenoid while watching the actuator. If this does not work, then you either have a bad actuator or valves stuck in the turbo. If you can get your hands on a vacuum pump, attach it to the drive and see if it is in a vacuum. If you do not buy a new actuator.
