Is the Silverado 06 still in limp mode?

I came out this morning, turned on my 06 5.3L Silverado, and it went right into limp mode. Turned it off and back on, but still in limp mode. Hooked up a scanner, no pending codes and no active codes (besides the evap coil that’s been on for 2 years).

Never heard of that before. Limp home mode usually happens when a major sensor malfunctions (MAF, coolant temp, electric throttle sensors, etc) or a very bad condition exists (overheating). The info center will display “Reduced Engine Power” and the truck will have very little power.

What kind of engine does a limp mode have?

I believe the limp mode is something similar to what my boat engine has. It has a 302 cu in fuel injected Ford block engine. If the engine overheats or loses oil pressure, the computer will not allow the engine to operate above 1,000 RPM, which in a boat is very low speed (about 10 MPH).

What to do if your transmission is in limp mode?

When does DTC put a car in limp mode?

When the engine control module, transmission control module or brake control unit (ABS) detects a problem in the engine, transmission or with the brake system, it will store a trouble code in your DTC memory. If one of the control units decide that the problem is dangerous for the engine or transmission, it will put the car into limp mode.

Why does my car go into limp mode?

Limp mode can occur when a set of conditions have been met that cause the transmission to try and preserve itself from a catastrophic failure. Most of the time, limp mode is going to max out the transmission line pressure and cause the transmission to shift really hard. It may also only allow the vehicle to operate in certain forward gears.
