The front suspension cradle is heavy and unwieldy. Its removal is not a typical one person operation. The following details the process necessary for one person to remove this Unit. Before attempting to remove this suspension cradle the engine must be supported. If necessary, fabricate (or purchase) an engine support.
How to remove front suspension cradle on Bernard Embden?
Remove pinch bolt from lower steering rack column and remove column to rack splined connection. Remove left side steering rack heat shield. (This is necessary to access the nuts that secure the left exhaust down pipe) Remove sway bay end links.
Do you need a jack stand to lower suspension cradle?
Lower the suspension cradle in stages always with a jack stand (blue arrow) to stop the cradle at predetermined points necessary to change the floor jack’s height. (The jack stand is also necessary as the wooden blocks on top of the jack saddle does not inspire confidence).
What happens if you Weld off a bushing?
If you inadvertently weld off the bushing or bearing you run the risk of ruining the part. The hotter the weld the better. Size however is less important. The bushings I removed were quite thin, and would not hold up to a lot of heat.

Why does my engine cradle need to be replaced?
I hit a hole or some debris in a bad snow storm causing my car to shimmy and shake. My insurance adjuster said that the engine cradle is broken and needs to be replaced. My car has 170000 miles. My car has an automatic transmission.
