I have the same problem with my Nitro – the Gate Ajar message appears continously on the warning screen – although the hatch door is closed. I bought the Nitro since 1st October 07 (three months). This came after a long trip on poor road. I was to the dealer, they told me that this is generated by the maladjustment of the rear gate.

There are sensors located on all the door latches, including the back hatch. One of them is not adjusted correctly. I attempted to take the door panel off the drivers door to start checking all switches and when I took the outer panel off, there is a big plastic panel inside as well.

How can I Turn Off the dome light on my Dodge Nitro?
Try opening the door, use a screwdriver or something similar to activate the catch on the door latch. You will need to push it hard to get the catch to close. The interior light switch/door ajar sensor is built into the latch. If you can get the light to go off this way then all you may need to do is adjust the latch/catch.
