How much play should a slip yoke have?

How much play should a slip yoke have?

For safe and stable operation, the slip yoke and spline should maintain at least 2 inches of engagement at all times.

How much does a driveshaft play cost?

With the car’s weight on the tires, you should be able to take the rear u-joint loose and push the driveshaft forward about 3/4 of an inch until the yoke bottoms out. Any less than that and you risk bottoming the yoke on bumps. Any more than that and there is insufficient spline engagement to transfer power.

Can you shorten a driveshaft?

How can I shorten a drive shaft? The easiest way to shorten a drive shaft is by taking it to the shop and having them do the work for you, to include balancing.

How big should the drive shaft yoke be?

When the drive shaft is properly installed, the length of the yoke should just allow you to move it forward into the transmission to allow removal of the rear U-joint from the rear end. So 1.5 inches sounds quite a bit shallow, and could put some extreme amount of force on the rear transmission seal and the front U-joint.

Discussion in ‘ Transmission & Driveline Topics ‘ started by BondoSpecial, Aug 3, 2009 . I have a 350 chevy with a saginaw 4 speed in my 76 Firebird with a late 70s 2nd gen Th350 style driveshaft. The 76 Firebird cross member had the SB chevy motor mount holes already drilled and I installed the engine using stock type 2nd gen clamshell mounts.

Which is longer 727 Mopar or TH350 yoke?

The 727 Mopar yoke is more than twice as long as the TH350 yoke. A picture and/or measurement of how deep your yoke is would be appreciated if anyone cares to measure! Also an accurate measurement of your driveshaft from center to center on the U joints on the shaft itself.

How long should TH350 style driveshaft yoke be in trans?

Stock driveshaft length in the later models was 48.5 center to center. Not 100% sure about the early stuff. the crossmember is the same auto vs 4 speed. My driveshaft is indeed the 48.5 c-c length. It looks a little short but I have been driving the car around and it does not vibrate at all at speed or leak so thats a start.
