When it ceases to function the main computer puts the car in “limp home mode” which allows the the car to drive in first or second gear but will not allow it to shift into other gears. It should be a relativley cheap part to replace. Mine was around $30 and only took about 30 minutes to replace.

Are there any transmission problems in a trasnmssion?
Every trasnmssion has its own type of problem. Also, if you were in the area of 100,000 miles on your transmission, you better hope that $1700 got you new planet kit, 2/4 hub and rev hub. And, hopefully they aren’t using “white box” parts.
