How do you lift the bonnet on a Ford Fiesta?
Here’s how to do it properly:
- First, make sure your handbrake’s on and the ignition’s turned off.
- Let your engine cool for about 10 minutes.
- Reach under the dash and pull the lever.
- The bonnet will pop open.
- Lift the bonnet slightly and feel the release catch, then slide it to the left.
Why does the bonnet not close properly on a Ford Fiesta?
A better explanation opened the bonnet & now can’t get it shut properly. There’s a black tab with a yellow arrow which releases the safety catch & apparently if you drop the bonnet from about a foot, it’s supposed to move out of the way & the bonnet locks- but the tab just stays sticking out & if you pull it, you can open the bonnet.

Very annoying the bonnet catch dosnt seem to spring when fully depressed. I got a screwdriver on hook for the bonnet and can push the second latch down but the release latch that holds this closed isn’t clicking into place. have tried WD40 but think im looking at new bonnet latch any idea how easy to fit? found one on fordparts for £30.
Why is the bonnet not fully locking down?
2011 1.4 Fiesta Zetec. I opened the bonnet today to do the usual engine checks but Noe can’t properly lock it down, it just grabs the first latch but no matter how hard or softly I slam the bonnet down, it won’t go all the way to the second lock. I sprayed the lock mechanism with WD40 hoping the magic stuff might do the trick, but nah!
