Do you need relays for a 3 wire door lock?

Should you need to add relays for a “3 wire negative (Type B)” door lock system, use the diagram below. If your alarm or keyless entry has positive outputs only, you will have to connect the other side of the coils to ground and connect your outputs as shown.

How does a 4 wire door lock work?

Like the 4 wire configuration, the switch, when moved in either direction, applies both power and ground directly to motor legs without the use of any relays. Except, at the switch in this case, both motor legs rest at ground . Therefore it is only necessary to change the polarity of one motor leg to lock or unlock the vehicle.

Do you have to connect wire to ground to unlock door?

If your alarm or keyless entry has positive outputs only, you will have to connect the other side of the coils to ground and connect your outputs as shown. The lock and unlock wires below refer to the switch wires, not the motor legs. In this case, both motor legs of the door locks are normally open. They neither rest at ground or 12v (+).

Can a power door lock be added without an alarm?

The process is similar when you move the switch to the lock position. When you use the key fob to lock or unlock the doors, the receiver provides power to the unlock and lock control coils and the system operates just like if you had used the door switches. Start by checking the fuse. Then check for power at each door switch.

What to do if your power door lock is not working?

If the ground is good, remove the door trim panel and check for power and ground coming into the power door lock actuator. If the relay and switch are working properly but you’re not getting power and ground at the door lock actuator, check the wiring harness in the hinge area of the door.

Where are the relays on a power door lock?

Facing the box you have two relays on the left side one on top of the other. On the right side you have a single relay. I was wondering if anyone can tell me what part of the locking operation does each relay control and what one of the three relays it is.
