Can you use Motor Oil in a hydrostatic transmission?
Can you use Motor Oil in a hydrostatic transmission?
The fluid recommended for Hydro-Gear transmissions and pumps is a 20W-50 motor oil or 15W-50 synthetic motor oil. If the machine has oil reservoirs, they are mounted to the frame behind the seat, for easy access and oil level check accessibility.
Can you use 10w30 for Hydraulic Oil?
Platinum Member. Yes, wacker does specify 10W-30 in the hydraulic system. The term “engine-oil” is not in the spec, so there is where my confusion is.
What happens if you mix Motor Oil with hydraulic fluid?
Mixing oils with different additive packages is never recommended. Doing so could compromise the additive performance of both constituents, cause corrosion of component surfaces and lead to increased mechanical wear.
What type of oil should be used in the hydrostatic transmission?
The fluid recommended for Hydro-Gear transmissions and pumps is a 20W-50 motor oil or 15W-50 synthetic motor oil.
Are Motor Oil and hydraulic fluid the same?
Engine oil function is to lubricate engine parts. Hydraulic oil is used to transmit pressure and energy. There are some hydraulic FLUIDS which are water based, say, which are not hydraulic OIL. Hydraulic oil and engine oil are very much the same, a mineral or synthetic oil base.
What happens if you mix 10w30 with 10w40?
They will mix right in with each other and no harm will be done. Even if you were to mix syn with conventional you’ll be fine. If you were to labratory test your oil it will read out as not a true 10w-30 but no harm will be done.
Can you use hydrostatic transmission oil on a 10W30?
Any standard 10w30 motor oil should have it. Just check for it when you buy the oil. DO NOT use automatic transmission fluid (ATF) – that fluid is NOT compatible with the oil that’s in there now, and it may even wreck your seals.
What kind of oil do you use in a 10W-30 engine?
Make sure what you use doesn’t have a detergent additive in it. RZucker and mg2361 like this. It specifies to use 10W-30 API SE/CD engine oil only in the owners manual. That’s why I don’t know if buying name brand for double the price will make any difference because they are all a higher spec than the original oil.
Can you use hydrostatic transmission oil with ATF?
Hydrostatic transmission oil confusion. DO NOT use automatic transmission fluid (ATF) – that fluid is NOT compatible with the oil that’s in there now, and it may even wreck your seals. If John Deere wants you to use regular ol’ motor oil (which is part and parcel of their specification), that’s what you should use.
Which is better motor oil or hydrostatic transmission fluid?
The meshing of gears can shear down and thin out engines oils. Hydrostatic transmission oil is designed to withstand gear lubrication to a much greater extent than motor oil. This means that dedicated transmission oil has a superior ability to maintain its original viscosity and provide more reliable wear protection over the long term.

What kind of fluid does a hydraulic mower use?
Hydraulic fluid in some systems can be water. Depends on what the system is designed to do & utilize. A good multi-viscosity synthetic Motor Oil is the best “fluid” to run in almost every hydraulic mower. :smile:KennyV
What kind of oil do you use for hydraulic fluid?
CNH calls for 10-30 motor oil in the hyds. Beeb that way for a long time. When I need it, I buy what is convenient. Never had an issue. Tractor hydraulic fluid isn’t a lot different at all from automatic transmission fluid you use for your car.
