Can you swap the tailshaft on a TH350?

Can you swap the tailshaft on a TH350?

The tail shaft can only be switched by taking apart the transmission. On re-assembly, the tail shaft goes in first and then the rest of the components for the transmission. There are articles all over the net about this, but they will not help you tear one apart and put it back together.

Is a Turbo 350 the same length as a Powerglide?

The Powerglide is a 27.75-inch-long two-speed transmission with a 27-spline output shaft. The TH-350 has a 27-spline output shaft and is half an inch shorter overall than the TH-400. The TH-400 uses a larger 32-spline output shaft.

Will a TH400 replace a th350?

Yes, you can. As previously stated, you would need to change the output yoke – and you would need to move the crossmember back 4 inches to fit the TH400 mount. You would need to either mount the electric kickdown on the carb, or on the throttle bracket inside the cab.

Is it possible to shorten the driveshaft on a TH350?

Shortening the driveshaft would be a simpler solution, IMO. uuummm You have a long shaft tranny. You need a short shaft tranny in our cars. You cannot just change the back of the housing. It’s the shaft that runs through the whole tranny that will be to long.

How big is the tail shaft on a TH350?

Today i picked up a th350 with the 9″ long tail shaft housing. Is it easy to change out to the 6″ tail shaft housing or would it be easier to just get a shorter drive shaft made up? It most likely depends on how much $$$ you want to spend on it.

Can a TH350 be converted to rear wheel drive?

This doesn’t work for NP203 or NP205 transfer cases as they have even shorter shafts in their TH350s and the short rear wheel drive tranny isn’t splined far enough for that conversion. The output shaft is the first part in and the last part out of the transmission.

What do I need to change tail pump on TH350?

All you need is common hand tools, a 3/8″ or bigger chain about 2′ long to pull the pump, and a couple of small c-clamps to compress the clutch pack in the tail of the trans (which you wouldn’t have to remove to change the shaft). Thanks for the ideas. Yesterday i got a call from a garage i used to work at.
