Can you patch a power steering pressure line?

Use S.U.R. & R. S.U.R. & R. makes hose repair kits that allow you to replace just the leaking portion of the power steering line. That means you don’t have to fight to remove the fittings at the steering rack, pump or cooler.

What do I need to remove a power steering hose?

Regular hose clamps are enough to keep lo-side hoses sealed because they’re under less pressure. To remove a lo-side hose from the pump you will need either a flat screwdriver or a nut driver/socket (1/4 or 5/16 inch) to loosen the clamp (s).

Can a nut be removed from a power steering line?

The nut is not designed to be able to remove (just mount not unmount) and normally you have to buy a hole new line cause the O-ring in the nut is warn out. If I buy a new line I still have to fit the new nut my self and the problem can occur anyway.

What to use to replace power steering pump?

Place a drain pan beneath the pump to catch any fluid, and then disconnect the pressure line from the pump (see first photo below) using a flare nut wrench. If you’re careful and the nut is not too tight, you can use a regular wrench, but make sure you don’t damage the nut. If you are re-using the hose, cap the line to prevent dirt from entering.

I put the metal seal into both ports when I put the steering gear up then I removed the seal from the pressure port to attach the lines. The return line breaks through the seal but the pressure line does not go in the port.
