Can extreme cold make check engine light come on?

Can extreme cold make check engine light come on?

Yes, it is possible. My guess would be the O2 Sensor heaters are not heating fast enough or are inoperative. Also something to consider is that with freezing temperatures and ice formation, the sensitive electronic circuits may be receiving false voltage readings.

Why does my check engine light come on when I run my AC?

Check engine light comes on when running air conditioning goes off when not run. The additional load by the ac compressor could just be enough to worsen a light misfire on that cylinder. Treat it like a normal misfire for now and inspect the spark plugs, fuel pressure, ignition wires, coil, etc.

Do you need an engine warning light to pass Mot?

The answer to this is ‘no’ – the light itself isn’t but the issue that causes could prevent your car passing its MoT depending on what it is. Unlike many of a dashboard’s other warning lights, an engine warning light doesn’t alert you to a specific fault.

What does the warning light on the dashboard mean?

Problems can still arise, though, and the first sign of trouble is often a warning light on the dashboard, such as a ‘check engine light’ flashing. Of all the warning lights that can appear from time to time, perhaps the most alarming is the engine warning light.

Can a car fail the MOT with an amber warning light?

Stricter MOT rules introduced in 2018 mean that any car undergoing its annual MOT test with an illuminated dashboard warning light (whether it’s a red or amber warning) would automatically fail, as it’s classed as a major fault.

Is the OBDII port powered up when the car is off?

The OBDII port is always powered up, even when the car is off. The Scangauge II turns off parts of itself when it doesn’t detect impulses on the system for a number of seconds (I’m too lazy to look up the actual number). It actually is still partly on, but I doubt you would notice the extra current draw from the 12V battery.

Does the OBD2 scanner consume the power when car turns off?

I have a couple of ScanGauge IIs plugged into the OBD2 interface on my Prius, and they both power themselves off 30 secs ofter the 12V supply goes down (car switches off) – I’ve no idea if your scanner was designed to do the same thing (it would be if I had designed it!) Mendel Leisk likes this. since my car’s engine light is away on when drives.
