What’s the difference between Vortec 87 and 350 up blocks?
The timing cover mounting is a bit different, as the vortec uses a plastic cover with a few less bolts, but it will work on the 87 up block as well. you do have to use the vortec timing set and harmonic balancer to account for the crank position reluctor.Several other tiny differences.

What’s the difference between the pre 86 350 and post 86 block?
Pre 86, Post 86, Vortec. Use the correct intake for each and have no problems. There’s a ton of different stuff. Ive got an 87 350 out of a Suburban in my truck. These engines were a big POS. They use centerbolt valve covers, and if you use stock heads, the temp sender sizes are different.
