Can a GMC Duramax diesel start in cold weather?
Can a GMC Duramax diesel start in cold weather?
You will have a cold start issue if not plugged in long before any DEF issue. Now, my personal experience only goes down to -40 Fahrenheit. Below that I will need to defer to those people who live in Northern Canada or Alaska. This was a huge discussion around 2011-2012 when everyone started buying DEF trucks.
Why is my Duramax diesel engine not working?
The trucks computer keeps track of how much fuel needs to be added or subtracted from each individual cylinder to make the engine run smoothly, and this value is called the balance rate. If one cylinder is contributing too much or not as much as the rest, the cause is usually a bad injector and the cure is a replacement.
Are there any problems with the LLY Duramax?
In terms of LLY injector problems, GM had sorted out the internal failures with the 2004 ½ redesign, but the LLY Duramax would occasionally exhibit a trouble code for the injectors, but in most cases it turned out to be an issue with the injector harness rubbing through and causing a short or open in the wiring.
Do you need a Duramax Diesel in Florida?
You wouldn’t need in Florida, but sure as hell would where I go in the cold mountains. I can assure everyone, there is no issue with DEF and it freezing and thawing up here in Canada.
Can a Duramax HD start in cold weather?
In other words in cold weather when I remote start it, it will probably have a much longer pause before it actually cranks over to start because it is waiting for the glow plugs to warm up. Does anyone plug their trucks in in the winter. If so, at what temp do you deem it necessary?

Can a Duramax DMAX start at zero F?
The dmaxes start amazing well, unassisted, even at zero F (and below). Yes they wait for the glow plugs. The elevated idle may wait for a minute or 2 before ramping up the idle if it is close to zero, but not so long if just below freezing.
