Can a 350i engine rev over 3000rpm?

Engine won’t rev over 3000rpm. Any ideas. My 350i wont rev past 3000rpm when I drive it but will rev freely when parked. Its like it has a rev limiter fitted.

IT may or may not be causing your issues, but I have seen a bad fuel pump do stuff like this. It really sounds more like you’re in limp mode from the CAS. The CAS don’t typically fail however I’ve seen a couple. More likely the connector might need cleaned, or you bend the pins a little bit to get a better connection.

No Power, Won’t Rev, NO CODE!!!! My ’96 has me baffled again. This problem has been getting progressively worse over the past couple of months. The truck starts and idles fine. Put it into gear and accelerate, you have to give it a significant amount of throttle to get it up to speed. If you put it to the floor, it won’t rev beyond 4000 RPM.

No error codes stored in the ECU. Battery and oil lights are a red herring, they will always illuminate if the engine automatically shuts down due to low revs. Engine must be at or over 3000 RPM in any gear, as long as I stay below this then the issue does not occur.

At 1500 RPM, it puts up 20-21 in-hg of vacuum. At 3000 RPM, it puts up ~18.5 in-hg of vacuum. It will not rev above 4000 rpm sitting in park!! If I apply more throttle, the revs will actually drop to 3800, as if a load were being applied by a dyno, and the engine will start to ping.
