Here is a simple thing to do. Use a aux tank connected to the fuel line and see if you still have the problem. if so then it’s the screen at the end of the tube that might be getting clogged as you slush the junk at the bottom of the tank around. I di this and found the screen was getting clogged as I ran with a not full tank.

What causes gas to come out of a fuel tank?

Also, the vent line cannot have a dip in it where fuel or condensation can get trapped in the line. If fuel becomes trapped in the line your tank will then build pressure or vacuum until there is enough pressure to purge the vent which will cause gas and/or odor to come from the vent line.

Where does the fuel tank hose come from?

I’ve taken off the hose that goes from the elbow fitting on top of the tank to my fuel/water separator, but I can’t get the elbow fitting to budge. I’m worried that if I apply too much pressure I’m going to break something. Pic below, the fitting I’m trying to remove is the one at the bottom of the picture. Are these fittings meant to come off?
