Why is my Ford New Holland 7840 not moving?

Is there a problem with my 7740 SLE tractor?

My 7740 has developed a problem with the transmission. In colder temps-Nov thru May only the even numbered gears work. Once I shift to any odd numbered gear and release the clutch the tractor fails to move and code E39 mostly shows up with E38 displayed occasionally. I must shut down the tractor and restart to clear the code.

Go out the tractor and disconect left or right position potentiometer. Its a round plug with 3 wires on it. You will hear the buzzer inside the tractor warming you error code 25. Now reconnect the potentiometer. Turn key off then start tractor. Error code 24 will appear and hitch disabled light will flash.
