Why does my truck shut off even with the ignition Unplugged?

Why does my truck shut off even with the ignition Unplugged?

So that pretty much eliminates everything from key switch to ignition relay and to ignition side lug. With all your fuses still having power going to them, that makes me think that the pdm ( fuse panel ) is shorted internally. If you only had power going to one of thoses fuses with all those fuses unplugged, problem would be in that circuit.

Can a 1985 GM Truck Pull a fuse?

I don’t know how your 1985 truck is set up but in my late model GM car I could pull all the fuses and relays and it would not isolate 2 known areas of current draw, namely the seat motor for seat adjustment and the power windows.

Do you have a bed light, fuse pull test?

I am aware of possible current draws occurring with faults from either of these items (ie. a faulty seat motor and a power window motor that continues to run due to a faulty switch). Given the age of your truck you probably do not have either of these items fitted though but I thought I would throw this up in case. Do you have a bed light?

Where are the ignition fuses on a truck?

The ignition fuse, cluster fuse, engine ecm fuse, opt inst fuse, engine fan fuse, back up fuse, a/c clutch fuse, air dryer fuse, and opt fuse. The ignition also powers the abs thru the ignition abs fuse behind drivers seat. I would try unplugging all of those fuses in front fuse panel with the key off.

Why does my car shut off after I start the engine?

Engine Starts Great, immediately shuts off upon release of key. The only possible reason that the starter doesn’t operate after the engine is started and you hold the key in the start position is that there is a vacuum lockout that kills the current to the starter after engine starts and is producing vacuum.

What should I do if my ignition switch is not working?

How To Fix It: After ensuring the rest of the electrical system is intact, such as fuses, relays, and circuits, replace the ignition switch. The transponder antenna surrounds the ignition cylinder. If it doesn’t recognize the transponder key, it doesn’t allow the engine to run. https://www.gettyimages.com/license/525320791

Can a bad ignition switch cause a car not to start?

However, if your car has ignition switch problems, you may not be able to start the car at all. Ignition switch problems can also cause issues on the road, such as unexpected shutdowns or electrical problems.

What happens when you remove the key from the ignition?

Car Engine Doesn’t Turn Off When Removing Key or Pressing STOP It is a strange problem to have a car that won’t turn off when you remove the key from the ignition or press the Engine Stop button. Your engine will continue to run even when you remove the key from the ignition because the fuel pump is not shutting off.

Why does my car run when the ignition is turned off?

With the ignition turned off and the car continuing to run, simply remove the plug from the alternator (DO NOT TRY AND REMOVE THE BATTERY POWER WIRE FROM THE POWER STUD!) and the car should shut off if the alternator is creating the problem. If it does not stop running, your feedback problem is coming from something other that the alternator.
