Why does my GMC Truck die at idle?

Why does my GMC Truck die at idle?

Once the engine is warmed up then it relies on the O2 sensor for air/fuel ratio. A rough idle usually means a vacuum leak. I would check for those especially vacuum lines.

How often does a GMC Truck die at idle?

I should add that when revving the engine in neutral at a constant 2500 rpms it will sound nice and constant and then sound like for a split second power was lost. This is so short that the rpm needle hardly drops any when it’s back up to the constant 2500 rpm. This happens every 2-3 seconds while holding the revs constant and the truck is warm.

Piece of cake……The big important one was – Bulletin #020604052 Date:Oct. 2002 Summary: Engine Stall, No Start, Hard Start Cond. CNHTSA Item #00000167 (not sure what this is). 8 people found this helpful. Still not much luck on this end…..I did repair some wires at the O2 sensor and also at the knock sensor.

Why does my Chevy Silverado idle and stall when stopping?

I had a trouble code of # 22 t.p.s, I replaced the throttle position sensor, m.a.p sensor, and the idle air control sensor, however i am still having the problem, it is throttle body injected, and there arent any other codes showing up. Any help would be much appreciated. Hello Clay.

Why is my GMC TBI not running at idle?

It is no fun to get to the plug on these models, let alone screw in a compression tester. The injector pulse is not much and basically there is a straight down spray out of the injectors and no cone pattern when it runs for 2 seconds total or so. Sometimes it will try to run for 7 or eight seconds, rpms going up and down till it stalls out.

Why is my idle air control not working?

My Idle Air Control also responds accordingly by low counts when it runs good for 3 second and opens up when the engine is starting to stall and trying to keep it running . It dies anyway. I have new gasket on the base of the TBI assembly.

What happens when there is a vacuum leak in a GMC Truck?

When theres a vacuum leak the engine is running lean and rough. By adding fuel you’ll richen the mixture and compensate for the vacuum leak. The engine will then run smooth. Ooh ok gotcha, ETS=engine temp sensor. It’s what controls the gauges, and is on the driver side head IIRC.

Why does my Chevy S-10 idle so bad?

Computer does show that it is in OPEN LOOP MODE and O2 Sensor shows RICH and while working the throttle and watching the code meter, the reading will move from RICH to LEAN and back to RICH again. While all of this has helped the engine somewhat, it still barely idles and it still lops really bad.

Can a bad throttle position sensor cause idle surging?

Idle surging can be caused due to other issues in the car, but if it happens in conjunction with other throttle position sensor symptoms, the culprit is often the TPS. At idle, the ECM will not get the correct information and the throttle will variate randomly causing idle surges. 3) Check Engine Light

Can a vacuum leak cause a check engine light?

This could result in fuel trim problems and a check engine light, possibly with Fuel System Rich DTCs, such as P0172 or P0175. Some older power steering systems idle-up the engine using a vacuum switching valve (VSV), but a vacuum leak might stall the engine during a parking maneuver.

How can I tell if my idle control valve is working?

To check if an idle control valve is working properly, start by turning on your engine and letting it run for a minute or 2. Then, when it’s at an idling speed, take note of the RPMs in your car. Next, turn the engine off and disconnect the idle control motor under your hood.

What does it mean when your engine idle is too low?

If your idle is too low, it could be the IAC not talking to the computer correctly. Disconnect the IAC connector for a couple seconds while your engine is idling. If your engine idle didn’t change, you can suspect it to be the IAC. If it is working properly, unplugging it would cause your idle to freak out.
