What causes a fuel pump to fail on a Triton?

Fuel pump driver modules (FDM) are another common failure on the 5.4L Triton. Ford placed the driver module towards the rear of the steel frame. The aluminum module is then subjected to all the elements (water, salt, dirt, etc). Over time, build up enters the fuel pump driver module and causes it to fail.
