System is a joke and clearly designed to force people to overpay or get screwed for fines.

An excellent thought as now’s the perfect time to start a long-dead car. Sitting cars can suffer from a variety of maladies, including stale gas, bad starter motors, seized engines, dead batteries, and corroded hoses, among a plethora of other things that can be affected by time and the environment.

What happens if you leave your car alone for 15 days?

Here’s a rundown of the things that could happen to your car when you leave it alone untouched for 15 days or more. Let’s start with the obvious and the quickest thing that could happen to your car. Your vehicle will start collecting dust in just a few days.

What happens if you don’t drive your car for a long time?

Driving the car and adding air if necessary will usually make the tires round again, but letting the vehicle sit for extended periods on underinflated tires can cause permanent flat spots that you will be able to feel and hear when you drive. Rodents might take up residence under the hood or even in exhaust outlets.

What happens if you leave your car parked for a month?

If a car sits parked for a month or more, the battery may lose so much power that it will need a jump-start — or a charge before the engine will start. To be sure your car will always start, consider a battery tender as described in our guide, “How to Store Your Car for Winter.”

What to do if your car won’t start on a cold morning?

The car won’t start on cold mornings: If you have fuel injection, you need to have a professional diagnose the cold-start problems. Deanna Sclar is an acclaimed auto repair expert. She has appeared on hundreds of radio and TV shows, including NBC’s Today show and the NBC Nightly News.

When you know for sure that there is no problem with your car battery, the next place to look for is the ignition switch. If your car does not start after a few tries, the reason could be a possible bad ignition switch. Also, if your car starts and stalls suddenly, it can be due to a bad ignition switch.

Make sure all the connections are clean. Test the battery to ensure it really has 12volts. Use a voltmeter. I’ve had a battery that worked fine, but couldn’t start the car because the connections needed cleaning. Even if there isn’t corrosion it could be an issue.

What should the battery voltage be to start a car?

This is still enough (in most cases) to start a car, but is lower than it should be. A good healthy battery should be around 13.1vdc. When the engine is running, the alternator should be charging right around 14.1-14.6vdc.

How can I tell if my car starter is going bad?

Don’t worry quite yet. If you’re at home, there are three things you can test that will tell you what’s wrong—and you might have an inexpensive repair on your hands. The most likely problem is a dead or drained battery. If that’s good, then your battery cables might be dirty or your starter may be going bad.
