Why does my car have a lean running condition?

Why does my car have a lean running condition?

Either a lack of fuel pressure or insufficient fuel volume can cause a lean-running condition. Most techs are used to doing pressure checks, but many do not routinely check volume. Inadequate volume is a common cause of lean DTCs, especially where freeze frame data points to problems at higher rpms and engine loads.

Is there such a thing as a lean running engine?

Lean codes and lean-running conditions are a widespread problem that you’ll likely see again and again, on all makes and models. Year after year, state inspection/maintenance (I/M) administrators across the country report P0171 as one of the top ten DTCs that are set.

What causes a car engine to lean when warm up?

How long does it take to wash a Ford truck?

I used to wash the engine in my early 70’s Ford truck at one of those do-it-yourself car washes where you use a pressurized wand. Mostly it wouldn’t cause a problem, but from time to time something in the high voltage circuit would get wet and it could take 4-5 days of driving for whatever it was to dry out.

What are the symptoms of a lean running engine?

A lean running condition may manifest in driveability symptoms that have not (or not yet) triggered a DTC. Customer complaints may include symptoms such as decreased fuel economy, lack of power, hesitation on acceleration, backfiring through the intake, overheating, weird smells or other problems.

What happens to your car when you run lean?

Engine Cut Out. When the engine fuel supply is so lean that combustion can’t even occur, the engine dies out and stops working. In comparison to seizing, this lean-running danger is actually better because the operator can quickly put the vehicle in neutral before the engine stalls completely.

Can a car start before washing the engine bay?
