Why are there no lights on the selector switch?

I know this is an old thread but still very informational. On a 99 silverado 5.3 the switch lights would not come on also it was stuck in 2wd.l I replaced the actuator on the transfer case, checked the 4wd fuse in the cab, replaced the switch and the TCCM. Still no lights and no 4wd.

Circuit rcf09 – br – wh. Short took out the shift motor (cl3z7g360a) and the trans module (cl3z7e453de). Short was on the firewall near the blower assy. A fastener there wore through the harness. Very strange place to have that much vibration or movement.
