How can I tell if my Chevy Aveo radiator fan is bad?

You can test the voltage going from the fan relay to the fan itself. If it is getting 12+ volts, the fan should be coming on. But if it’s not, which means the fan has gone bad. This video from Ratchets and Wrenches is a phenomenal resource on how to properly diagnose a wiring problem.

What to do if your radiator fan is not working?

Connect a jumper wire between cooling fan relay battery feed and cooling fan battery feed circuit. If cooling fan operates, go to step 11). If cooling fan does not operate, go to step 12). 8. Repair open in battery feed circuit. After repairs, go to step 23).

Why are my cooling fans running on high?

I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3l that I am having a issue with the cooling fans running on high occasionally. When this happens my temp gauge will read zero and when I kill the engine the fans stay on. The only way to shut them off is to crank the engine and shut it right back off.

Why are the Chevy Silverado cooling fans not working?

These Chevrolet switch the fans on at really high temperatures in comparison to other vehicles….this has to do with where the sensor is placed. If memory serves me well I would expect the low speed fan to switch on at 220°F ~103°C and the high speed fan around 108°C ~ 226°F to engage.

How many fans does a Chevy Silverado have?

Not sure about the engine in this Silverado, so I guessed a 5.3L. This system uses two fans with two separate fan speeds. In low speed, both fans are run in series by the FAN LO relay, so they both end up spinning at half speed.

Connect a jumper wire between cooling fan relay battery feed and cooling fan battery feed circuit. If cooling fan operates, go to step 11). If cooling fan does not operate, go to step 12). 8. Repair open in battery feed circuit. After repairs, go to step 23).

When does the radiator fan relay come on?

Cooling fan relay will also be commanded on regardless of vehicle speed when a DTC is set requesting cooling fan to be on, ECT is 304°F (151°C) or greater, or A/C refrigerant pressure is high. Cooling fan may also be commanded on when engine is not running, on certain conditions.

What should coolant temp be on Chevy Silverado?

When the PCM see’s a temp of • Engine coolant temperature exceeds approximately 104.25°C (220°F). • A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 1447 kPa (210 psi).

Why is my blower not working in Hi ( 5 )?

The usual failure of the resistor pack is if it works in HI (5) but not in any other mode or just a few modes. When you switch to high, the blower motor relay coil circuit is grounded and voltage is now applied directly through the relay to the blower motor; bypassing the resistors. So, I would look to see if the relay is ok.

Why does my Silverado fan only work on 3 + 4?

I have an 01 Silverado and the fan only works on 3+4, so a solution would be very helpful if anyone knows one, thanks It’s probably a bad blower motor resistor. I would replace the blower motor as well. Usually what happens is the blower motor gets worn bearings/bushings and pulls too many amps, which in turn burns the resistor out.
