Specifically the ones with P0701 code but here is my story: I have a 2006 Ford Freestyle AWD with 205k KM on it. Bought it used last Sep. with 196k KM on it.
Where is the dip stick on a freestyle transmission?
If you are at all mechanical, you can handle this one. The trick is that the dip stick is hidden underneath the air filter duct next to and below the battery tray. Good clean CVT transmission fluid will be light bluish green in color. Old fluid will be brownish. You may elect to change this and the high pressure filter out.

The filter is housed on the right side of the car and must be accessed from the wheel well opening and underbody. If you are at all unsure of doing this, it would be advised to take it to a reputable shop. You should be able to at least check the color and level of the fluid using the dip stick.
What happens to the transmission in a Ford Escape?
If the computer sees zero rpm it will give no shifting instruction to the transmission. Plus the speed sensor possibilty. Zero speed sensed equals zero throttle response. ( in my 06 hyrbid Escape w/cvt, you can NOT rev the engine. Not in park , not in neutral. )
