Where are the numbers on an engine block?
For big-block V8s, the number is on the block above the timing chain cover. Six-cylinder numbers are on the passenger side of the block near the distributor.
Where is the engine code on a nova nova?
On 4- and 6-cylinder engines, the code is stamped on a pad on the passenger side of the block to the rear of the distributor and above the fuel pump. V8 engine codes are stamped on a pad forward of the cylinder head on the passenger side of the block.
What should I look for in a Nova V8 conversion?
Consideration must be given to such things as a one- or two-piece rear main seal block, a right-side dipstick (some 305 engines are different), V-8 coil springs, cooling your new V-8 throttle linkage, manual trans linkage, alternator mounting, perhaps a stronger rear-end, etc.

What’s the difference between a’73 and’74 Nova?
’73 and ’74 instrument panel outer bezels are identical. Many ’75 and ’76 Novas also use a very similar looking (but slightly different) outer bezel with a different style instrument cluster mounted in it.
