What are the specs for a camshaft and cylinder head?

The specs are a conservative 212/218 degrees of duration at 0.050-inch tappet lift but offer a really nice 0.512-inch valve lift for both the intake and exhaust. The combination of this cam with your intake and headers will produce a very nice street engine.

Where do you find the serial number on a Mercury flathead?

Mercury crankshafts have a longer stroke and are identified by a dimple on the top of the crankshaft counterweight. The presence of a “C” at the beginning of the serial number indicates an engine manufactured in Canada. In order to read the serial numbers, it may be necessary to clean the area with a wire brush, rags and cleaning solvent.
