What to do if your Camaro has a bad idle?

What to do if your Camaro has a bad idle?

Take a real good look at the throttle “butterfly” valve. They have a tendency to get buildup with dirt and will stick slightly open, confusing the computer into thinking that you are pushing on the “go” pedal. Get some carb cleaner, or even better, GM Top Engine cleaner, and really clean out the throttle valve and air intake area.

What’s the idle speed of a 1988 Camaro?

When in gear (ex. Reverse, Drive, 2nd, 1st) my car idle “settles” around 750 on the tach, but then starts to fluctuate around there, moving up to 900 (or so) then dips down to about 500 on the tach. While the idle speed is fluctuating my voltage drops dramatically.

Where is the idle air control valve on a Camaro?

I’m going to say check your IAC valve (idle air control), this is located on the passenger side underneath the throttle body. These get all carboned up and can’t re-seat themselves properly. You may have to perform a minimum idle setting also.

What’s the idle RPM on a Chevy Corvette?

On start up, the idle drops to 400/500RPM then goes up to 1200RPM, then the idle lowers to and alternates between 600 and 900 RPM. It never stays constant. Its stalling under a minute after start up, and it will stall once the idle drops if I rev it while its in P.

Why does my Camaro have an idle problem?

Has idle problem about one day a week. Take a real good look at the throttle “butterfly” valve. They have a tendency to get buildup with dirt and will stick slightly open, confusing the computer into thinking that you are pushing on the “go” pedal.

Can a faulty camshaft sensor cause a car to stop?

On some car models, you also have a camshaft position sensor, which the car uses if the camshaft sensor is faulty. In this case, a faulty crankshaft position sensor may not cause the car to stop entirely.

What causes a car to start but not keep running?

The engine requires the right amount of air and fuel to mix together for ignition. If there is a fuel leak somewhere, then the correct amount of fuel may not make it to the combustion chamber. This might be enough to allow the engine to start, but not keep running.

Is it normal for a car to start rough?

Last week when leaving work my car started very rough. This was unusual so I killed and restarted the car about three times before letting it run it’s course (~30 seconds), after which the car ran fine.

What causes a car to start at the wrong time?

Spark plug wires are a source of electromagnetic interference (EMF), but this is usually only a problem on some aftermarket setups when this interference isn’t taken into account. A timing belt or chain that has skipped a tooth will throw off the cam timing, causing the intake and/or exhaust valves to open at the wrong time.

What happens when you attempt to start your car?

When you attempt to start your car, you normally assume it is going to start without any problems. You’ll hear the engine turning and everything will seem fine. However, there may come a point in time when your car will start but then die almost immediately afterward.
