Anybody good on Cummins Big Cam iv low flo overheating problems? This is what has been done so far This is a Cummins BC 4 400 lo flow Recon engine with about 30,000 miles so far we have replace radiator with a 4 row dimpled tube core, water pump , both themostats and the POS is still getting hot any help will be appreciated .Tony

They stopped useing the “A”, as most of their turbo engines from the 70’s on were aftercooled. Cummins truck block went thru many changes. It had small bores then was bored out to 855 CID… They were haveing trouble with cam lobes wearing, and incressed the size of the cam allowing for longer “ramp” times on the lobes .

Can a big cam 4 be converted to high flow cooling?

The old Big cam 4 (with the thermostat that bolts on from the top) can be converted to “Big Cam III” high flow cooling. It not so easy with the NT88. They changed the block casting around the waterpump. There were some industrial NT88 blocks with high flow cooling, but finding the parts isn’t easy.

How many horsepower does a big cam 400 Cummins have?

Just like Burky and Packrat have mentioned, Diesel Injection of Pgh can build some real monsters. And 550W9, I’m sure your Kitty ain’t stock, but they have built some 700+ hp BCs; one was up around 900 hp (If my memory serves).
