What tells the coil fire?

What tells the coil fire?

So how does a coil actually fire a spark plug? When battery voltage from the ignition circuit, ignition module or PCM flows through the coil’s primary windings, the iron core becomes a strong electromagnet. The voltage then passes from the coil to the spark plug and creates a spark that ignites the air/fuel mixture.

Can a coil pack cause a misfire on a mini van?

CASE 1: If you got spark from all six spark plug wires. This tells you that the coil pack and the spark plug wires, on your 3.3L or 3.8L Chrysler mini-van, are OK and not the cause of the misfire condition. CASE 2: If you got No spark from only one spark plug wire.

Why does my ignition coil keep going out?

Here is why! The leading cause of premature failure of an ignition coil is due to a worn or bad spark plug ignition cable. A bad spark plug ignition cable will have a much higher than normal resistance. This high resistance causes a very high amount of voltage to be generated from your ignition coil’s secondary winding.

Why does my coil pack have no spark?

There are a few reasons for no spark, new coil pack could be defective, crank sensor, ignition module or bad wire in primary circuit, faulty ECM/PCM. You may have to have a good technician have a look, diagnose and estimate repair. Second link gives detailed instructions for testing and diagnosing coil pack.

How to test the coil pack on a Chrysler 3L?

Disconnect the spark plug wire from the spark plug that you’re gonna’ test and connect the HEI spark tester to the spark plug wire. Ground the HEI spark tester directly on the battery negative (-) terminal with a jump start cable. When ready, have your helper crank the engine as you observe the spark tester.

What does no spark mean on ignition coil?

CASE 5: If you got a no spark result from all of the spark plug wires. This usually means that the crank sensor is bad The next step is to make sure that the ignition coil is getting power (12 Volts) and then see if the Powertrain Control Module (Fuel Injection Computer) is activating the ignition coils within the coil pack.

What makes a Chrysler minivan fan not start?

As said, at the input connector, one wire is +12V ignition source, the others are shorted to ground (by transistor in PCM) to charge up the coil and when they open the coil sparks, just like the points did in 1960’s cars. There are 3 coils, each firing 2 cylinders simultaneously (one needs it, one is “wasted”).

What kind of coil pack does a Chrysler 3.3L use?

This is a complete diagnostic test of the ignition coil pack that’s used on the 1990-1998 3.3L, 3.8L V6 engines on Chrysler cars and mini-vans.
