I used a hacksaw blade hoping I could cut a slot and curl and lift the rest out, I ended up getting bit by bit with an awl and it just chipped out. I stuck a rag in first and pulled out most of the stuff but not all. Run a 1/2″ pipe tap in if you have one. I have done this repair many times and I use the same method as Impalaman.
