What happens when there is no heat in a truck?
After about 10 minutes, it will blow warm air (not hot), but only if it’s above 40-45 degrees. Anything under that (40 and below), it blows kind of lukewarm air, barely warmer than the inside temperature of the truck. Well, not having heat makes me cold, and I don’t like to be cold at 6:45 in the morning.
How is the heat in my Silverado truck?
First, and most important problem: The heat in my truck is virtually non-existent. After about 10 minutes, it will blow warm air (not hot), but only if it’s above 40-45 degrees. Anything under that (40 and below), it blows kind of lukewarm air, barely warmer than the inside temperature of the truck.
Why does my car heat up when I’m not driving?
If you have an electric cooling fan that isn’t coming on, this can cause your engine to overheat. This fan draws cooler air through your radiator when your car isn’t going fast enough to do the job naturally. You can test this by letting your car idle long enough for the engine to heat up.
Can a leak in a radiator cause an engine to overheat?
A radiator leak is very common and will cause a drop in coolant and engine overheating. Most leaks start small and if you do the proper maintenance on your vehicle you should be able to spot potential weak spots before they get too bad. At times, a radiator will just pop and you will lose all your coolant in a matter of seconds.
Where does the heat come from in a Chevy Silverado?
The heat in the Silverado is supplied by the hot engine coolant running through the engine cooling channels. Some of this coolant is diverted from the cooling system into a heater core. A fan then blows on the core to blow warm into the air into the cabin.

What to do if your Chevy Silverado heater is not running?
Turn the heater on the highest setting and set the fan speed to the highest setting. Open the hood and place your hand over the upper radiator hose. Check to see if it is warm. If it is, then the coolant is flowing through the cooling system as it should. Check the radiator to heater core hose.
