What do you need to know about pulley belts?

What do you need to know about pulley belts?

Pulley belts, also known as V-belts, are rubber belts wrapped around a set of pulleys that transmit force as an engine rotates the pulleys. In order to replace or install the proper belt for your pulleys, you need to have an accurate measurement of the length so you can choose the right one.

How many V belt pulleys are there in the world?

Measuring a v-belt pulley is simple, however, when it comes to properly identify a v-belt pulley there is a multitude of different styles and options. We standardly stock over 8,000 SKUs of different v-belt pulleys alone! Please Note: For the below illustrations we use a standard single-groove v-belt pulley.

What should be the distance between the pulleys?

The second part, the distance between the pulleys, is if you already know what length belt you need and also you know the diameter of both the pulleys. But you’re not sure exactly what the distance should be between them.

How does a pulley belt work in an ahu?

In this article we’re going to be looking at some pulley belt calculations with worked examples. As shown in the image below, an induction motor is connected via a belt to drive two pulleys which will move centrifugal fan. This is this fairly typical of what you might find to in an Air Handling Unit or AHU.

What should I do if my pulley has run out?

If the pulley is mounted on a tapered shaft bushing, inspect and clean the bushing both inside and out to ensure proper seating. Now check for face (axial) run-out and, if necessary, correct it by repositioning the pulley on its shaft. When run-out is in tolerance, proceed to install new belts. Drive Belt Fitting

Can you replace the pulley on a V belt?

You were also losing a significant amount of power, so no wonder you want a replacement! The bottom or narrowest part of your belt should never touch the center of a v-groove pulley. Try getting a pulley with a slightly smaller outside diameter instead of matching the one you have.
