What causes stalling on a 1984 Corvette crossfire?

What causes stalling on a 1984 Corvette crossfire?

A failing control valve solenoid can cause stalling and poor or very rough idle on the 1984 Corvette Crossfire engine. The 1984 engine uses a manifold vacuum source to operate the EGR valve so a strong vacuum flow from a stuck open control valve solenoid would allow EGR to flow at idle.

Why is there no SES light on a 1984 Corvette?

This pulsing action prevents too much EGR gas from entering the engine and causing an overly lean condition. GM did not have to monitor EGR operation closely on the 1984 vehicles so there is no Service Engine Soon (SES) light illuminated if the system fails. The 1985-1989 Corvette was a different story.

What causes a car to stall after too much wear?

After too much wear (IE if you have defects, overheated the car, neglected oil changes, bad combustion over time etc etc etc) the piston rings and cylinders will not mate and seal properly causing low compression and blow-by. While cold, the ring-cylinder mate is tight, keeping the combustion gasses from blowing by and allowing the engine to run.

When did corvette start using exhaust gas recirculation?

1984-1996 Corvette EGR Diagnosis. Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) came about in 1975 when catalytic converters were introduced. The inert exhaust gas was used to quell the increased heat in the engine’s cylinders from the lean fuel mixtures required to keep the catalytic converters from melting down.

Why is the check valve on my Corvette not working?

Once vacuum is applied the diaphragm should rise, holding vacuum until the engine is started, then the valve should purge the vacuum and the valve will close. If the valve should fail to rise during vacuum application, the valve has an open check valve or broken diaphragm.

Why does my C3 Vette die at idle?

In Park with the engine running at idle, after it fully warms up, the engine starts having an erratic idle then eventually dies. Then it won’t start until the temp of the engine drops down a bit. So my guess is this is definitely not a vacuum leak, it’s just got to be something with the carb.

Why did my 1973 Corvette engine die out?

1973 Corvette Convertible, Owned since 1980. This same problem plagued me and my 73 for months. I forgot to check the obvious – the fuel filter at the carburetor was so full of junk and floating junk that the engine would starve for fuel. Somebody used Teflon tape on the fuel line threads and it was disintegrating.

What causes a steady miss at idle and under load?

If you have an unexplained miss at idle and under load there are two possible causes that can be difficult to find in some situations. A worn camshaft will cause a steady miss. A slightly worn camshaft lobe will possibly have only a minor tapping noise occur.
