– no real action to cause problem, just driving paved side street 4WD came on, switch lights went out and then noticed in 4WD by feel of the drive. Checked fuses in the dash panel and under the hood, all were good. Checked for loose wiring, appeared/felt fine. Swapped out the switch for a known working, no change.

I am hoping someone here can help me out. I have an 04 silverado 1500 crew cab 4wd. The truck has auto 4wd, 2wd, 4wd hi, 4wd low switch. I always keep the truck in 2wd unless needed other wise but I have noticed on more then one occasion now that my switch will automatically engage into auto 4wd from 2wd.

If no power, check the 4WD fuse for being blown or an open in the Brown wire. 3. Check for a chassis ground on the Black wire. 4. If OK, plug the actuator back in and probe a meter on the Light Blue wire. With the vehicle in Two Wheel Drive (2WD), there should be 12 volts there. When put in 4WD, then the voltage should go to 0.

1. Defaults to 4HI after I switch the ignition on 5 sec off 5 sec then on 10 sec.,will also switch to Auto 4WD. 2. Depressing dash buttons runs 4WD Frt Axle Actuator with whining then vibrating grinding noise at end of cycle.
