Anyone can use the National Archives. You do not need to be an American citizen or to present credentials or a letter of recommendation.

On 28 March 2013, NAS was officially transferred to the National Library Board (NLB). The NAS was established in 1968 for the preservation and administration of the archives. This treasure house has records dating as far back as 1800, 19 years before the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles.

Entry to the National Archives is free. However, a nonrefundable $1.00 advance reservation convenience fee will be charged for each ticket. Changes are allowed on a ticket order at no additional charge. If you cancel, reservation fees are nonrefundable.

We are making digital records available on our website free of charge for the time being, while our reading room services are limited. Registered users will be able to order and download up to ten items at a time, to a maximum of 100 items over 30 days.

Only bring what you need with you – the fewer items you have, the quicker it will be for us to check when you arrive. We are carrying out contactless checks upon entry to the reading rooms for security reasons. No coats, bags and umbrellas. No food and drink, including chewing gum and sweets.
