Any internal combustion engine requires around a total (intial +cent) of 32 to 36 degs running on petrol… the fact its a 396 or a 1000cc 1912 technolo9gy British boxer engine makes no difference. What is at idle realy doesnt matter unless it is way over advanced, but does have enough advance anfd good mixture for a stable idle.

Ball park u will need about 32 to 36 degs total all in around 3000 to 3200 rpms. So loosen off the hold down bolt on the dizzy, but enough grip to not let it go loose. fire up the engine.. and increase rpms till ther is no more advace with the timing light. At these rpms (should be around 3200) turn the dizzy till u get about 34/ 35 degs.

Fortunately the previous owner removed and stored away the 3919842 aluminum heads, which are in pristine original condition and dated Feb/March 1969, and these are included with the car. I have no other engine parts. There is no transmission or shifter. The CI-code 3.73 12-bolt is original and all there.
