Today, we sadly announce we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Race for Life event series. This isn’t the news we want to share with you, but due to the continued risks of COVID-19 we have to put our supporters first.
How long does it take to do the Race for Life?
A Race for Life 5k takes about an hour to complete, but there’s absolutely no pressure to finish in a certain time. It’s about uniting in the fight against cancer – no matter what your pace. Unsure how far 5k is?
Is Couch to 5K hard?
The Couch to 5K® running plan has helped thousands of couch potatoes run their first 5K. 30 minutes per day, 3 days per week, 9 weeks long and you’re 5K ready. But for many people, Couch to 5K® is too hard.
Is 21 minutes good for a 5k?
For more experienced runners, running blogs and websites suggest an average 8-minute-per-mile pace, resulting in a finish time of about 26 minutes. Very advanced runners may be able to complete a 5K in less than 20 minutes.

What charity is Race for Life?
Race for Life is a series of fundraising events, organised by charity Cancer Research UK. They involve running, jogging or walking a 5-kilometre, 10-kilometre or ‘Pretty Muddy’ course and raising sponsorship for doing so. The money raises funds for cancer research in all 200 types of cancer.
Can dogs do Race for Life?
Race for Life 3k, 5k & 10k participants can take part with their dogs at a wide selection of venues. However, participants in Race for Life Pretty Muddy Events cannot take part with dogs.
Is Race for Life chip timed?
Yes the event will be chip timed. For the full and half marathon event you will receive your chip already attached to the back of your running number – you do not need to do anything. The chip will record you as you cross the start and finish as well as at various points on the course when you run over a timing mat.
How many steps is 5k?
Someone of average height can expect to take around 6250 steps over a 5k distance (based on an estimated stride length of 2.1 to 2.5 feet). Once you’ve crossed the finish line of your first 5k you can start working towards increasing your steps and taking on longer distances such as 10k events.
