Is it normal for water to drain out of car air conditioner?

After running your air conditioning for a while, you will see water drain out from the bottom of your car. This is perfectly normal and a good sign. However, if you don’t see that water draining – and instead are greeted by water stains inside your vehicle – then you could have a problem.

Why does my air conditioner keep dripping water?

The warmer the air, the more moisture it contains. This humidity is turned into water in the car’s air con system and has to go somewhere. The system is designed so that it gets rid of this water by allowing it to escape from the car through a drain hole. Hence the drips beneath the car.

What happens if you don’t clean condensate drain?

The condensate drain removes condensation produced by your air conditioners evaporator coil. If the condensate drain isn’t cleaned, mold can grow inside the drain, causing humidity, odors and water damage. Also, if the drain is clogged, it will prevent water from draining so, you may need to clean out the drain.

What causes water to back up into condensate drain?

However, when the water mixes with the debris it can create blockages in the condensate drain or cause an obstruction of the evaporator coil. This creates slow water flow and can cause water to back up into the drain pan and overflow. If the stoppage occurs within the drain line it will also catch the drain pan to overflow.

Where do you drain condensation from your air conditioner?

These air-conditioning condensation drain lines (either black plastic or white plastic-looking pipes) usually drain out somewhere at the base of the house into a flower garden. Make sure mulch or soil doesn’t plug these condensation lines up.
