When did I overhaul my Detroit S60 diesel?
I have overhauled my Detroit S60, year 2000 I put new pistons, new head, new fuel pump, new injector, new harness, new ecm and it does not work properly. It is idling roughly, doesnt have as much power as before, slow building turbo boost pressure from 16psi to maximum 24psi.
Are there any problems with the series 60 engine?
We’ve briefly discussed some of these problems in our Series 60 spotlight, but we’ll dive into them a bit more fully here. It Still Runs also mentions a few of these issues. Where is the V pod on a Detroit Diesel?
#1- you need a new V-pod, found at the lower RS of the engine block by the oil pan rail. crawl under and look for it. #2- the turbo actuator leaks air, or does not respond to the air supplied from that V-pod. Air TO the V-pod MUST be greater than 100 psi, air FROM the V-pod TO the turbo actuator will NOT exceed 74 psi.
