Is the John Deere 450g farm Dozer in good shape?

I have a 1994 450G (793 991) Direct Drive dozer we use for general work around the farm for roads/drainage/etc. Engine/tracks are in good shape (5600hrs), but I have a transmission problem. The previous owner I purchased it from about four years ago told me he had the transmission “rebuilt” a couple years before I purchased it.

What does direct drive mean on a John Deere 450g?

If the same, you have a Power Shift direct drive with pedals instead of levers. The G model Power Shift can have a torque converter or not have torque converter. Direct Drive means no torque converter. You will have an ‘inching’ pedal on the left and a decelerate petal on the right, steering pedals in the middle, of course.

What does inching pedal do on John Deere 450g?

A hard push will load the engine to capacity, and the inching pedal is there to decouple the transmission before the engine stalls. Or, just downshift, or go into reverse, lift blade, etc.

How does steering work in a John Deere 450?

Steering is done with the 2 levers coming out of the floorboard. The clutch is used to select the transmission gear. The H-L-R transmission is hyd. controlled and is adjusted with the clutch as to speed of shift etc. Hyd. pressure to the H-L-R clutches is adjusted through a bung on the floorboard. If all this makes sense.

Why is my John Deere 450 not moving?

Its no fun dropping your skid plate and fixed that lousy connection when you are in the swamp laying in your blown out oil and it won’t move. Happened about a week after I bought it and twice more before I installed the hyd line. Never had an issue after that.

Why is my John Deere 450C transmission slipping?

That machine has a mechanical clutch between the engine and transmission, as well as the clutch packs in the transmission and the steering clutches, could be slipping anywhere in there. Do you have it in low gear with the gear selector and does it behave the same in reverse, low and high on the powershift?

I have a John Deere 450c dozer that doesn’t seem to have any power moving forward or backwards. It has enough power to move itself but that’s about it but very slow. To complete your repair of the JD450 steering clutch, we have produced NEW steering clutch pressure plates, complete with mounting cover, springs and levers.
