How does the torque converter work on a 700R4?

How does the torque converter work on a 700R4?

The 700R4 torque converter’s lock-up (clutch) system creates a physical connection between the impeller and the turbine, transforming the torque converter into a mechanical coupling. This internal clutch locks the converter when engaged by the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid (a pressure switch inside the transmission to engage the lock-up).

Can you compensate for poor gearing with poor torque?

That thing was pretty slow with a stock 350 engine. However you can compensate for poor gearing with a lot of torque so if you running a 600HP/TQ big block having a lower gear wont matter as much. I have put some examples below using the gear calc program to give you an idea of what kind of differences you see by changing you rear end gear.

How much torque does a car have at 3, 000 rpm?

Let’s say the engine is at 3,000 rpm, the gear ratio is 3, and the vehicle is creating 300 pound-feet of torque. Using the following formula, we can calculate horsepower:

Is the 700R4 transmission the same length as the Turbo 350?

If your Turbo 350 has the 9-inch tailshaft, the 700R4 transmission will be the same length, and you will not need to cut or lengthen the driveshaft. The new TCI pump assembly provides superior performance over not only the factory 10-vane systems but many of the 13-vane aftermarket kits as well.

Why does a Chevelle TH400 have less torque?

While rolling at a slow speed fully depress the throttle to see where the RPM will flash (or peak) to. This method will not be true if tires spin or the car is rolling too fast. Due to the turbine already turning in the torque converter (it is the part the input shaft is splined into) you end up with less torque multiplication.

Why do you need a torque converter in a car?

A torque converter can be set up for a very wide range of effective “gear range”, and the appeal of the torque converter was that it didn’t require any “gears” at all; the necessary torque multiplication could all happen in the torque converter (“TC”).

How much torque does a 383 SBC 400 have?

If you have a really torque engine like a 383 SBC 400, N/A (naturally aspirated) engine, those engines can normally push through that bad RPM drop, but w/a 327, not so much. 3.25″ stroke usually does not cut it, does not make the torque.
