How does the Scrambler ride work?
The scrambler (or twist) is a popular amusement park ride. It turns on a dual axis, with each axis a center of an independent rotation. A frame with three arms rotates at constant speed around a central axis. At the end of each arm, a second axis is the center of a rotating cage containing four riders.

Maximum speed is 11.4 revolutions per minute. The length of the ride can be controlled by the operator. I have never timed it and and have no idea how long Six Flags lets the ride go for. The Scrambler is a fun ride.

Has anyone died on the Zipper ride?
On September 7, 1977, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a public warning, urging carnival-goers not to ride the Zipper after four deaths occurred due to compartment doors opening mid-ride. The four victims all died after falling from their compartments.

The first scrambler was invented by Richard Harris of Georgia and installed at Lakewood Fairgrounds in 1938. Two additional rides were built and sold in the following two years. In 1941, Harris was granted a U.S. patent for the design, which was then acquired or licensed by the Eli Bridge Company.

Zipper operators are encouraged to employ a “no single rider” policy. The manufacturer’s concern was that a person riding alone might turn sideways in the seat and remove their legs from underneath the lap bar, risking serious injury as the capsule spun.
