- Step 1: Remove the clutch cable cover.

- Step 4: Loosen the jam nut on the clutch adjuster.
- Step 5: Adjust the clutch.
- Step 6: Put the derby cover back on.

1/2 to 3/4 is good. When your bike is COLD, with the handlebars straight, there should be enough space between the cable end and the lever housing to slide a nickel between. If that checks out, then you need your clutch readjusted. Mine starts to engage about 1/4 to 1/2 inch off the grip.

Why is my Clutch not working on my Harley Davidson?
I {Heart} Hookers. If the clutch grabs off the bars, and you have the proper end play in the cable, than the basket ISN’t adjusted correctly, or something is wrong with the ball/ramp assembly in the side cover. The ball/ramp isn’t throwing the actuator far enough to get the clutch to disengage.
