Is there a problem with the AC presure switch?

The pressures in the system are fine. Just to test, I jumped the low pressure switch and compressor still shut down past 1200 rpm. There are 4 wires on the switch on the high pressure line by the compressor. I’m not sure why 4 wires. I didn’t take the time to test them. Can you change the switch without draining the system?

What is the function of an AC pressure switch?

AC Pressure Switch Function The AC pressure switch function is to provide a safety monitor over the system. It is responsible for monitoring refrigerant levels on both the low- and high-pressure sides of the AC unit. That’s why you have two separate AC pressure switches on your vehicle.

What does it mean when your AC pressure switch is failing?

However remember the important role in managing the pressure of the refrigerant as it works through the AC System that the AC Pressure Switches play. This means that if one or, even worse, both switches are failing then the AC system will be receiving incorrect pressure readings from either the high or low side of the system.

How does a high pressure AC system work?

Here it cools the air blown through the system which emerges into the car as a cool blast of Arctic chill. The refrigerant then exits the system under high pressure where it can be cycled back through the low pressure side to become a gas again before starting it’s magical cooling journey all over again.
