The serpentine belt may not be prone to breaking, but it does wear out over time. When a serpentine belt wears – or if the belt becomes damaged or contaminated – the engine accessories may not be able to spin at the proper speed.
What to do with a broken belt tensioner bolt?
This is a 214,000 mile Ody Touring and I have no service history other than the lot I bought it from at 212K miles replaced the timing belt and water pump because they were noisy when cold, and I’ve replaced the front stabilizer bar links and have new front struts awaiting installation.

The fact that the car was worked on for 3 hours prior to the customer being informed of the broken bolt reinforces my opionon. What to do if your tension pulley is broken?
Tie up the belt with a bungee cord so it wont slip off the other pulleys. The other bolt removes the tensioner assembly from the engine, right hand thread. (righty tighty, lefty loosey) Wedge the assembly to a bench vise and turn the bolt clockwise, remember this one is a left hand thread. The tensioner might have a hard time staying in the vise.
