Can a Hi Mount alternator be installed on a 1959 Galaxie?
Can a Hi Mount alternator be installed on a 1959 Galaxie?
There are two ways you can install the alternator on the FE 1959-1964 Galaxie. For the “Hi Mount” alternator bracket you will need to purchase a waterpump for a 1965 or newer FE engine so that the bracket can attach. The older FE engines have dowl rather than a tapped area on the pump to allow the generator bracket to attach.
Can a generator be converted to an alternator?
Generator to Alternator Conversion This page documents my converting my 1962 Mercury Comet 170cid inline 6 engine from a 30 amp generator & mechanical voltage regulator to a 60amp alternator and solid state voltage regulator.
Can a Comet engine be converted to an alternator?
This page documents my converting my 1962 Mercury Comet 170cid inline 6 engine from a 30 amp generator & mechanical voltage regulator to a 60amp alternator and solid state voltage regulator. This conversion should work for any 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963 or 1964 Comet, Ford Falcon, or Ford Ranchero with the 144cid or 170 cid I6.

How do you connect a 6V generator to an alternator?
1.Disconnect the battery. 2.Remove the 6V generator. 3.Mount the Alternator. Brackets are available from various manufacturers. 4.Use a “DA Plug” which allows you to eliminate the old voltage regulator. Attach the short wire to the alternator post. Attach the long DA wire to the ignition switch so it is powered only when the switch is on.
Where does the Trans Po Go in a Ford alternator?
The small black wire from the generator is a ground wire to body of vehicle. This schematic shows the Trans Po voltage regulator attached to the back of the Ford alternator. The orange wire with the male connection on it goes to the generator light on the dash.
Where are the voltage regulators on a Galaxie?
