Can a fuel pump be too high or too low?

Can a fuel pump be too high or too low?

Yes, too high a fuel pressure WILL cause a too rich condition, and your fuel pump is probably the problem. Putting a too-high pressure fuel pump on and then using a regulator to step the pressure back down is (excuse me) a kinda s—–d thing to do, by the very nature of the thing. It is like standing on a ladder, and complaining about the height.

What to do if your fuel pump is not working?

If nothing after that, then the fuel pressure regulator is not working and needs replacing. If you get pressure to the rail, then there could be a problem with the injectors; they may be either dirty or plugged up. Take the injectors off the engine and clean them with CLR.

What should the pressure be on a fuel pump?

On classic cars with mechanical style fuel pumps, however, the pressure is much lower—between four and six PSI. If you suspect that your fuel pump is not producing enough pressure, there are two tests you can perform. The first is a simple pressure output test.

What should fuel pressure be for a 350 SBC?

I Emailed Edelbrock and they advised me that I should have no more than 6 psi fuel pressure. I have a Holley High Volume mechanical pump that claims 80 gph and a 7.5 psi shutoff pressure. What’s your thoughts, would this pump just push the fuel through the needle valve and cause a rich condition?

Why does my fuel pump not hold pressure?

If the system keeps pressure you know that injectors are ok and the problem may be down stream (fuel pump or fpr). On the flip side, if it didn’t hold pressure then it could be an injector or an fpr leaking into the vacuum line. To check the fuel pump, presurize the fuel system and only block off only the return line.

Can a bad FPR cause a fuel pump misfire?

If yes, bad fpr, injector leaky and fuel pump check valve could be culprit. P1406 is for the EGR valve. Different issue from fuel pressure drop. EGR or passages could be blocked by carbon buildup. Intake leak, injector and fpr leak can cause P0300 multiple misfire though.
