Can a clogged transmission filter cause overheating?

Driving with particles in transmission fluid can cause the transmission filter to become clogged, so draining and replacing the transmission fluid can sometimes solve overheating problems.

Why does my GMC Sierra not have a transmission cooler?

One of the common issues with transmission cooling on the 14+ Sierras and Silverados is the bypass valve within the factory transmission line. This valve is designed to prevent complete fluid flow until the trans temps reach 190F+.

What kind of transmission cooler do I need for a Chevy Silverado?

For a full size pickup truck is it typically best to get a larger cooler that has a large cooling surface with a higher GVWR, and either a stacked plate or plate and fin construction. With all these things in mind, our choices for the best transmission coolers for a Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra include:

Can a transmission cooler keep Trans temps lower?

It is much easier to keep trans temps lower in older trucks due to their simple transmission cooler line setup. For newer models with a 6L80 or 6L90 however (2014+), the transmission cooler lines utilize a built in thermostat that remains closed and does not flow to the cooler until the fluid reaches 190 degrees.

What’s the temp on a Silverado Sierra GMC?

Tranny temp was fine as I have a really good aftermarket trans cooler installed. It was hot out as well, roughly 32 deg c (93 deg f). Just wondering how hot is too hot? I was at the top of the hill by the time it reached that temp and it came down quickly once I started heading downhill.

What’s the Trans temp on my Chevy Silverado?

Last night I flushed out the cooling lines (again) but still seems like no flow through the cooling lines. I have hit the temp warning twice and it is not uncommon for the truck to have the trans temp around 220 when it is 75 degrees out side. (this is with both trans coolers and on the freeway going about 65 – 70 mph)
