Why is the vent valve stuck in the closed position?
Why is the vent valve stuck in the closed position?
The most common cause is the vent valve solenoid is stuck in the “closed” position. This is the solenoid behind the gas tank (see diagrams) with the wires attached. Get only a factory brand Delco, nothing else.
Why does my gas pump shut off before filling up?
Sometimes problems with venting can make it almost impossible to fill up at the gas pump. A very frustrating ordeal at the pump is to have the pump shut-off while putting gas in BEFORE the tank is full. Some vehicles even have the fuel splash back out due to improper vent tube operation.
Why is my fuel tank not venting properly?
Make sure not to blow too much pressure into the tank since a leak from the fuel pump seal or from some other component could be created. If the tank is not venting properly it may actually swell when blowing air in through the hoses. It may be normal for the tank to expand a little and quickly contract when the air exits the tank.
Can a charcoal canister cause a gas pump to shut off?
EVAP charcoal canisters can contaminate the system causing flow and vent issues. Sometimes problems with venting can make it almost impossible to fill up at the gas pump. A very frustrating ordeal at the pump is to have the pump shut-off while putting gas in BEFORE the tank is full.
Where is the gas tank valve on a Chevy Tahoe?
It only cost me $28, The engine light has not shut off yet but that should resolve itself in a few days after I drive it around a bit. -It connects to the charcoal canister under the rear by the gas tank, A lot of people refer to it as the evap valve or solenoid.

Where is the vent valve on a GMC Yukon?
I read online about similar issues. To date I’ve replaced the vent valve solenoid, the fuel tank pressure sensor, the carbon canister, and the EVAP emissions canister purge valve on the front of the intake manifold.
What’s the purpose of the EVAP vent solenoid?
Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Battery voltage with key on. The ECM’s driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it).
Why does my gas tank keep shutting off?
Spent today under the car pulling off the old evap canister and then proceeding to put compressed air through the lines to remove as much charcoal particles as I could. Got everything connect back together and went to fill up. Issue remains. Can get about 1.5 gallons in the tank before it shuts off.
How can I tell if my Chevy Tahoe vent solenoid is broken?
Sometimes the wire breaks inside of the insulation. You can tell it’s broken inside by the way it will bend very easily at a certain area (because you are basically just bending plastic). If you cant tell, unplug the connector and check for 13-14 volts to the vent solenoid on the Orange wire with the engine running.
Where is the EVAP solenoid located on a Chevy Tahoe?
Discussion in ‘ Engine & Drivetrain ‘ started by Brake_L8, Dec 20, 2015 . Got a CEL and discovered it’s for P0499, the EVAP solenoid. I can’t seem to find a definitive answer as to where the part is located on the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon.
What happens if the EVAP fails on a Chevy Tahoe?
EVAP failures CAN cause drivability issues and if left unchecked. A stuck open purge valve is essentially a vacuum leak and would cause high fuel trims and if left unchecked long enough could cause catalytic converter damage. Managed to replace this and not break that plastic hose and clamp setup.
What happens when a gas tank vent is blocked?
Modern vehicles have a vent hose that is part of the fuel system. When this line is clogged or blocked, fueling repercussions follow. The most prevalent of these is the auto shutoff problem. Attempts to fuel the vehicle fail, because the back pressure constantly shuts off the pump.
How do you unstop a gas tank vent?
Blowing through the line will verify whether there is a blockage and often will unblock the line. Push a length of small-gauge plastic tubing or large heavy wire through the vent pipe, to check for a physical blockage. This is often the case if wasps have gotten into the vent line and built a nest. Drain the tank, and allow the interior to dry out.
